It started for me at a friend's 40th birthday party last November as I told some friends one of my dreams has always been to run in the NYC Marathon.
So on December 1, 2010 I started running with the hopes and dreams to accomplish this goal. I have a 7 1/2 year old son named Jack and thought what a good way to teach Jack about health and fitness as well as commitment, dedication and resolve.
With the support of my friends and family, especially my wife Stacy and my son Jack I have been training, I ran the Long Island Half Marathon in May and am very excited for the NYC Marathon on November 6.
Our family got involved with Voices Against Brain Cancer as my brother in law Brian's father Dr. Noel Kriftcher was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2010 and who lost his battle with this disease this past March.
I, like most people who knew Noel admired him very much, he was an intelligent, wonderful, loving human being. My son Jack, my wife Stacy and I all loved Noel very much and I am honored to be running in his memory.
I also lost my father way too soon 28 years ago and sometimes as I am running think of him and ask him for help to accomplish my goal.
I want to again thank my family and friends for all their support in this Marathon journey, especially my Mom, the Kriftcher Family, my unofficial running coach Brian A. and most especially Stacy and Jack.
I would ask that you consider making a donation to Voices Against Brain Cancer to assist in their efforts against this disease in the memory of Dr. Noel Kriftcher and I look forward to seeing you in NYC on race day.
Thanks
Ray Stankey
